Don't allow Rejection to Capture Your Mind

This morning I was a little distracted during my prayer time – thoughts were

racing through my mind – it was as though I couldn’t contain all the rambling that I was paying attention too. Those unhealthy thoughts captured my thinking.  What were those thoughts cycling around my attention span?  I was thinking about close friends and even brothers and sisters within the church. We all know we must forgive, but is it easy when your heart has been damaged?

Trying to shake off the rambling that was going through my mind, I decided to continue with my Scriptures.

So, I began reading Isaiah 53 and connected with verse 3; “He is despised and rejected by men….” The Holy Spirit asked a question – ‘what does rejection feel like?’ I felt that He wanted me to think about what HE asked. My first thought was hurt. I decided to look up the word rejection. Google defined it as to push away, refuse, or fail to accept someone or something. This means someone or something that you have accepted has pushed you away – otherwise, it would not have caused damage to your tender heart.

Isaiah 53:3, this was an event that is relevant for today; as recorded, “He is despised and rejected of men.” What does that say to you and me, that Jesus Christ knows and understand these feelings of rejections. He knows what we are going through and those hurtful thoughts swimming through our hearts. To stretch the pains further – those who reject us do not care about the damage they have caused. But Jesus Christ does – no matter the hurt – His love is greater than the pain that we allow people to cause within us.

Also, what jumped out at me in this verse, that the rejection that Jesus Christ is still experiencing comes from men – never from God.  He will never push us away – to the contrary – His desire is that you and I are to be close to Him. God wants intimacy with us - our hearts close to His heart. Hebrews 13:5; “…For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.””

God never promised that we will not be rejected by men, but He guaranteed that He will never push us away from Him.

So, the answer to rejection is to draw close to the One who will never push us away and the One who loves us more than any person on this earth can even imagine.

But those who have hurt us, let them deal with their own feelings, because their feelings do not belong to us.  We are responsible for our own thinking and what we allow to invade our hearts and even what we allow to contract our thinking. We are in control of our own thought process. If someone’s actions do not motivate, encourage or elevate you, delete it from your life. The results of their actions do not belong to you or me.

We do not embrace the likes and dislikes of people; they are not the ones carrying us through this life journey. Let those hinderances go, they do not belong to us.

Proverbs 4:23; “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”
